If you start getting secure, you become a stagnant pool.Then your energy is no more moving. Then you are afraid, because one neverknows how to go into the unknown. And why take the risk? The known is moresecure. Then you get obsessed with the familiar. You go on getting fed up withit, you are bored with it, you feel miserable in it, but still it seemsfamiliar and comfortable. At least it is known. Unknown creates a trembling inyou. The very idea of the unknown and you start feeling unsafe.
\u4e16\u4eba\u53ea\u6709\u4e24\u79cd\u3002\u60f3\u6d3b\u7684\u8212\u670d\u7684\u4eba\u2014\u2014\u4ed6\u4eec\u5728\u5bfb\u6c42\u6b7b\u4ea1\u3002\u4ed6\u4eec\u60f3\u8981\u4e00\u4e2a\u8212\u670d\u7684\u575f\u5893\u3002\u60f3\u771f\u6b63\u5728\u6d3b\u7684\u4eba\u2014\u2014\u4ed6\u4eec\u9009\u62e9\u5371\u9669\u7684\u6d3b\u7740\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u53ea\u6709\u5728\u5371\u9669\u4e2d\u751f\u547d\u624d\u4f1a\u8301\u58ee\u6210\u957f\u3002

Then there isno boredom, then there is no dust of the past, no desire for the future. Thenthe present moment is very sharp like a flame. It is enough. You live in thehere and now.

Reaching higher, going farther away from the settled, theroutine life, you again become wild, you again become part of the animal world.You again live like a tiger or a lion or like a river. You again soar like a bird into the skies, fartherand farther away. And each moment the security, the bank balance, the wife, thehusband, the family, the society, the church, the respectability… all arefading away and away, distant and distant. You become alone.

This is why people are so much interested in sports. Butthat too is not real danger because you can become very very skilled. You canlearn it, you can be trained for it. It is a very calculated risk — if youallow me the expression, calculated risk. You can train for mountaineering andyou can take all precautions.

Or driving, speed-driving. You can walk one hundred and sixty miles perhour.It is dangerous, it is thrilling. But you can become really skillfulabout it, and the danger is only for outsiders; for you it is not. And even ifit is there, it is very marginal. And then, these risks are only physicalrisks, only the body is involved.

When I say to you, live dangerously, I mean not onlybodily risk, but psychological risk, and finally spiritual risk. Religion isspiritual risk. It is going to such heights from where maybe there is noreturn. That is the meaning of Buddha’s term, anagamin — one who returnsnever. It is going to such a height of point of no return; then one is simplylost. One never comes back.

When I say live dangerously, I mean don’t live the life ofordinary respectability — that you are a mayor in a town, or a member of thecooperation. This is not life. Or you are a minister, or you have a goodprofession and are earning well and money goes on accumulating in the bank andeverything is going perfectly well.

When everything is going perfectly well, simply see it –you are dying and nothing is happening. People may respect you, and when youdie a great procession will follow you. Good, that’s all. And in the newspapersyour pictures will be published and there will be editorials, and then people willforget about you. And you lived your whole life only for these things.

Watch — one can miss one’s whole life for ordinary,mundane things. To be spiritual means to understand that these small thingsshould not be given too much importance. I am not saying that they are meaningless. I am saying that they aremeaningful, but not as meaningful as you think.

Money is needed. It is a need. But money is not the goaland cannot be the goal. A house is needed, certainly. It is a need. I am not anascetic and I don’t want you to destroy your houses and escape to theHimalayas. The house is needed — but the house is needed for you. Don’tmisunderstand it.

As I see people, the whole thing has gone topsy-turvy.They exist as if they are needed for the house. They go on working for thehouse. As if they are needed for the bank balance — they simply go oncollecting money and then they die. And they had never lived. They had never asingle moment of throbbing, streaming life. They were just imprisoned insecurity, familiarity, respectability.
\u7136\u540e\u5982\u679c\u4f60\u538c\u5026\u4e86\uff0c\u8fd9\u5f88\u81ea\u7136\u3002\u4eba\u4eec\u6765\u627e\u6211\uff0c\u8ddf\u6211\u8bf4\u4ed6\u4eec\u611f\u5230\u65e0\u804a\u900f\u9876\u3002\u4ed6\u4eec\u53d7\u591f\u4e86\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u5361\u4f4f\u4e86\u3002\u8be5\u600e\u4e48\u529e\uff1f\u4ed6\u4eec\u4ee5\u4e3a\u53ea\u8981\u91cd\u590d\u5531\u4e00\u4e2a\u5492\u8bed\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u5c31\u80fd\u518d\u6b21\u5145\u6ee1\u6d3b\u529b\u3002\u4e8b\u60c5\u53ef\u6ca1\u8fd9\u4e48\u5bb9\u6613\u3002\u4ed6\u4eec\u5fc5\u987b\u6539\u53d8\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u6574\u4e2a\u751f\u547d\u6a21\u5f0f\u3002
Then if you feel bored, it is natural. People come to meand they say they feel very bored. They feel fed up, stuck. What to do? Theythink that just by repeating a mantra they will become again alive. It is notso easy. They will have to change their whole life pattern.
